Verified Purchase. Buyer Beware; Searching for answers and a solution to my recent weight gain and digestive ailments, I came upon this book at my local library. I was hooked the moment I picked it up off the shelf and then ordered a copy of my own. I religiously did this diet, eliminating all the,so called, "intolerant" foods outlined in the diet and only eating all the good "Virgin" foods. I also ordered and used all the Virgin digestive enzymes, supplements, protein shakes, and protein bars.

Excited to finally be on what I thought was the right track to healing my gut health, I found with all these wonderful, healthy foods and alterations to my diet, my symptoms Virgin help me lose it. The Virgin Diet is geared towards finding your food intolerance yet all the foods she encourages are High-FODMAPs which are highly intolerable and can actually aggravate digestive problems particularly in people with IBS.

After doing her diet I became even more "gut messed up", so I sought the advice of my physician. My gut is finally happy again and I am flabbergasted that Ms JJ Virgin, a registered dietician, does not once mention in her book the notion of this, yet a diet high in FODMAPs is the "one" cause of food intolerance and GI distress! It amazes me, that she implements products and a diet for GI intolerance, yet does not stop to consider this issue. And this is absolutely "Huge"!!! And there are several books,also available on Amazon, that outline the low-fodmap diet.

Just wanted to raise the awareness. Let me save everyone some time and money. This is exactly a paleo diet. Plus replacing two meals daily with shakes.

The first few days were rough, but once I started substituting foods it became easier, such as using pesto instead of mayonnaise, using olive oil on my baked potato instead of butter, and using lemon infused olive oil and fresh lemons on my sal instead of commercial salad dressing. I would not call this a diet, although you sure do lose weight, but we like to think of it as clean eating. That's exactly what it is. Our energy levels have gone through the roof. The foods we are now eating taste amazing, and after the first week, have not craved any of the foods that are not good for the body. I do spend more time in the store reading labels, always amazed at what is in the foods we though were good for us. Also spend more time in the kitchen, but will say he now helps plan meals, shop he re EVERY labelcook and clean up too!! A clear and concise book, easy to follow and understand. Changed my diet and weight. I too bought this book after having seen the PBS special "Lose seven foods, feel great fast", and found the regimen a lot more strict than the PBS special lead you to believe. First of all, the idea that it is "seven" foods is ludicrous.

The "seven" foods are components of just about every processed food on the market. Also, the PBS program was quick to show you easy substitutions i. Having said all that This program totally worked for me. I lost 9 pounds the first week, and 2- 2. I discovered that gluten was the culprit for me. I went a month without pasta, without bread, without flour, crackers anything and then when I finally reintroduced them, within 2 days I was pushing them away because the headaches, t pain and bloating were so pronounced. Ditto dairy- after years of acne and oily hair, after a month on the program my hair and skin are fantastic!

I feel better than I have in years, and that is real motivation to keep going.

I think this program works well for me because I love cooking, love healthy foods and have the time and motivation to plan and execute meals. I think that vegetarians I am mostly vegetarian may struggle with it because she is so adamant about "lean clean protein" in the form of beef, fish etc. Also, it is very all or nothing- not a book which advocates moderation.
